Welcome to the Kitchen Archive, an alphabet of creative responses to the domestic space of the creator's own kitchen and kitchens more generally.

The kitchen.  An area where food is prepared.
A place to fulfil a basic human need.
A place that connects humanity across time,
location and culture.

The kitchen.  The heart of the home. The most used room in the house.  A communal area.
A place to fulfil our own and others' need for sustenance, for comfort and health.
A place tied up with memories.

The kitchen.  Symbolic of women and domesticity. The centre of unpaid work within the home.
A place in which gendered roles are highlighted.

The kitchen.  A workshop for the hobby of cooking.  A space to store the equipment and ingredients needed to create culinary delights.
A place to spend leisure time.

The kitchen. A design showcase for your home.
A place that shows how much. or how little, you have.

Meal machine, experimental laboratory, status symbol, domestic prison, or the creative and spiritual heart of the home?
